Oak Island Sunset Views
The Point

Few things compare to the magic of an Oak Island sunset. Whether you’re sitting on the sand, watching from a pier, or enjoying dinner with a view, Oak Island offers countless perfect spots to end the day. Fall sunsets are particularly spectacular. Here are my favorite spots
1. The Point
Head on down to the West End of Oak Island and park at either the Kings Lynn side or at the end of West Beach Drive. The point is a special and unique place on the island, where the intercoastal waterway meets the ocean. No matter what time of year, sunsets here are simply gorgeous. In the late fall and winter months, the sun sets over the ocean, lighting up the evening sky ablaze with orange. In the summer months, the sun sets over the land, but still provides an awe-inspiring evening view.
2. Oak Island Fishing Pier
The town of Oak Island’s fishing pier is a leisurely stroll down to the end and back. It offers expansive views of Caswell Beach, Bald Head Island, and the East End of Oak Island. The Ocean Crest fishing pier is a close second. This pier is more centrally located on the island, which provides tremendous East and West views to watch the sun go down. The best part about catching sunset on one of the piers is watching the water shimmer with the setting sun and the rising moon. The pier also provides some incredible photo opps! This is definitely a great option for a date night as well!
3. West Oak Island Dr. Fishing Pier
With more of a wooded view, catch the sunset sinking slowly over the treetops and watch the night sky come to life. This is also a great place to watch all the boaters coming in after a day at sea. A small parking lot provides quick access to the fishing pier, but get there early to grab a seat and beat the crowd. It's a great place to sit with a cup of hot cocoa and watch the sun go down in the wintertime.
4. The Fishing Pier at SW 6th St.
Take the golf cart out and about for a sunset drive, and head to the end of SW 6th St. There, you'll be greeted with a fishing pier that is perched out over the Davis Canal. With eastern-facing views towards the water tower and western-facing views towards the point, this is one of Oak Island’s hidden gems. It is also a quiet and intimate place to stargaze. This spot is loved by locals and visitors alike.
Bonus: It is is also a great place to watch the fireworks over the 4th of July holiday.
5. Lonerider Bar & Grill
In the summertime, head on over to the Lonerider Bar and Grill located at the W 57th St. waterway access on the West End of Oak Island. You will see some of the most spectacular night skies as the sun sinks down over the intercoastal waterway and the marshes surrounding the area. Sunset at this point is perfectly paired with a beer from Lonerider. It is a perfect and relaxing way to end any beach day.
In the winter, head on down to any beach access to see a sight to behold. We tend to visit 11th St. east because the sun sets over the water, and the moon rises over the pier. Grab your wide-angle lens and take one of these breathtaking shots to remember your time on Oak Island.
